The Milky Way records one month of breastfeeding my newborn son. Each day in early 2026, I placed a fresh sheet of unbleached cotton muslin on my nursing pillow. Each cloth caught breast milk that dripped from my son’s mouth over a twenty-four hour period. I later dyed each cloth with kitchen scraps and other natural dyes. Because animal proteins dye more easily than cellulosic fiber, the process reveals an allover composition made up of spilled milk, making visible the often-invisibilized labor of motherhood.
