	After School Workbook
	The After School Workbook expands on themes explored in After School 課後&#38;nbsp;with pages of open-ended questions, prompts, cut-out work, and drawing exercises. It asks: What is the relationship between discipline and learning? How do governments and dominant cultures use education and assessment as a form of social control? How are incentives used in the classroom, and do they reproduce capitalistic values? The cover mimics examination Blue Books, while the interior cannibalizes old Futurelink workbooks and appropriates educational language and graphics from the late nineties and aughts. Because of the source material, the Workbook reflects a different era of “educational aesthetics,” one that is decidedly DIY, pencil-and-paper based, and predates the ubiquity of screens—and now artificial intelligence—in the classroom. 

8.5” x 11” 24 pages
 
Printed in an edition of 100 on 30% recycled copy paper. Saddle-stitched with loop staples. Each copy is unique with hand-applied color and stamp.

	The Milky Way
	

The Milky Way&#38;nbsp;records one month of breastfeeding my newborn son. Each day in early 2026, I placed a fresh sheet of unbleached cotton muslin on my nursing pillow. Each cloth caught breast milk that dripped from my son’s mouth over a twenty-four hour period. I later dyed each cloth with kitchen scraps and other natural dyes. Because animal proteins dye more easily than cellulosic fiber, the process reveals an allover composition made up of spilled milk, making visible the often-invisibilized labor of motherhood.

	After School 課後 (WIP)
	After School brings together collage, sculpture, and new and historical photographs to unpack the culture of after school tutoring centers in California. Known as 補習班 (bu xi ban) in Chinese, 학원 (hagwon) in Korean, and 塾 (juku) in Japanese, after schools are referred to colloquially as “cram schools” and by scholars as “shadow education.” Operating simultaneously as spaces of community, care, and control, these schools can be demanding and factory-like; but they also deliver essential childcare services to busy parents, many of whom are new immigrants.

As a child and young adult, I attended and worked at Futurelink School, a 補習班 and my parents’ business. Located in the San Gabriel Valley, CA, Futurelink served hundreds of primarily East Asian students, providing them with homework help and supplemental English and math lessons. Inspired by Futurelink’s vast archive of photographs, workbooks, objects, and advertisements, After School&#38;nbsp;appropriates educational materials to subvert the everyday tools of discipline and assimilation, explore the role of education in Asian American enclaves, and challenge stereotypes about Asian American students. Assemblages combine Futurelink photographs with photographs of California Chinese schools during the Chinese Exclusion era to reflect on the ongoing legacies of racism, segregation, and US immigration policy within the Asian American experience.

The exhibit is based on the np: and Counterpath co-published book After School. This project was made possible with the support of the Stamps School of Art &#38;amp; Design at the University of Michigan.

	Touch Screen Sensitivity
	The photo-text-textiles in Touch Screen Sensitivity — cyanotypes printed on recycled cotton muslin, bleached and toned with natural dyes derived from plants and kitchen scraps — weave together meditations on multispecies encounter. Focusing on low-to-the-ground life-forms like weeds and tadpoles, the work challenges the “omniscient” perspective of conventional landscape photography, instead attending to the resiliency and adaptability of small organisms in human-altered ecologies. The works also respond to contemporary habits of image consumption by drawing on the traditional forms of the Chinese screen and scroll. Rejecting distracted modes of engagement with “dematerialized” pictures, the screens and scrolls in Touch Screen Sensitivity cultivate slow, sensuous, and attentive modes of looking. Produced through time-, weather-, and temperature-dependent processes, and with materials from my immediate surroundings, each piece materializes intimate, vulnerable, and responsive relationships between human and more-than-human beings.

	Patchy Anthropocene (Buffalo Bayou)
	
The title of the piece “Patchy Anthropocene (Buffalo Bayou)” is taken from Anna Tsing, Andrew Mathews, and Nils Bubandt’s concept of “patchy anthropocene,” described as “the uneven conditions of more-than-human livability in landscapes increasingly dominated by industrial forms.” To make this large-scale work I went on photo walks or on boat rides along Buffalo Bayou. I started in Katy, where the bayou begins, and followed the waterway east as it turned into the Houston Ship Channel. Originally dredged and widened to ship cotton, the Ship Channel is now dominated by petrochemical industries. Rather than show the entirety of the bayou, I zoom in and out on observations that point to “patchiness,” the uneven conditions of livability that were made possible or exacerbated by capitalism, industrialism, racism, and climate crisis. The work is printed on close to six hundred letter-sized sheets of recycled cotton muslin dyed with acorns foraged during a mast year. The photographs of the Houston Ship Channel were printed on acorn-dyed fabric dipped in an iron bath to suggest a condition of chemical entanglement.&#38;nbsp;

	Fingeryeyes (2023– )
	Fingeryeyes is a record of my engagement with the plants, animals, insects, and matter in a particular place: a native prairie plot, a bird sanctuary, a plant nursery, a patch of urban vegetation. Each photo-textile is an exercise in sustained attention to what is growing, living, and dying around me. The title and process of the work is informed by Eva Hayward’s formulation of fingeryeyes, a haptic-optic observational methodology for viewing/ touching/ sensing/ feeling cross-species encounters. After photographing each site and editing the files digitally, I cut and treat sheets of fabric for inkjet printing. The printed images are then washed, ironed, trimmed, sewn, serged, smocked, embellished, and embroidered. Extensive handwork draws out the initial photographic encounter, thereby challenging the way we perceive digital images — as clear, bright, smooth, flat, and dematerialized. It also advocates for a slower consumption of digital images. The process aims to disturb the binary between seeing (suggesting disembodied distance) and sensing (connoting proximity and contact).&#38;nbsp;
